1000s sign up for Wear It Purple Day
Over 60,000 people have already registered their support for Wear it Purple Day. Now in its fourth year, Wear it Purple Day aims to highlight the need to support diversity and combat homophobia in schools.
This year Wear it Purple Day will take place on August 29. The nationwide campaign aims to promote and demonstrate community acceptance of diversity and inclusion by encouraging people to wear purple in solidarity of LGBTI and gender diverse young people.
The not-for-profit organisation, is run exclusively by young people who are 25 and under. This year Wear it Purple is focusing on the diversity of our rainbow community and hopes to breakdown preconceptions on the alphabet soup.
Within the organisation, the Youth Action Council (YAC) has been established to create opportunities for young people to develop their ideas within a mentoring framework. The YAC is comprised of young people under the age of 18 years.
All schools, educational institutions, workplaces and organisations keen to show their support are asked to register
Everyone is encouraged to ‘attend’ through the Facebook event as well as posting any images of their day by using #wearitpurple.
