Liplock at Russian International Athletics championships a protest?
Russian track champs Kseniya Ryzhova and Tatyana Firov who won gold as members of the 4x400m relay at the International Association of Athletics Federation's world championships over the weekend, kissed on the podium upon receiving their medals, which left many pondering if the move was in protest of Russia’s anti-gay propaganda laws.
The liplock made the women instant gay heroes but according to reports in The Guardian, Ryzhova says the kiss was not a political statement but simply happiness they had won.
Speaking to The Guardian she said; "It was just happiness for our team," which has trained together for many years,” Ryzhova said.
"If people want to write all sorts of dirt about us, they should at least know that Yulia and I are both married," she added.
