Jared Leto considered bringing Rayon to the Oscars
Jared Leto has revealed he thought about donning drag to this year’s Oscars in a bid to honour character Rayon, whom he portrayed in Dallas Buyers Club.
It’s probably a wise decision that Leto left the stilettos and wigs at home, gauging by some critics and trans community members' reaction to the film, who believe Rayon's character shouldn't have been played by a white straight, cisgender man.
Regardless of opinion, Leto obviously felt a strong connection to the role.
I thought about dragging up for the Oscars, going as Rayon, because I knew that she would have loved to be there," Leto said.
"It’s so much work for girls to get ready. I was brought up by my mum, so I always had an appreciation of women. But now I have more respect for the process. It’s a lot, what women have to do to themselves. But in the end, when you put that final dash of lipstick on and your look all comes together, it really is a glorious reward."
