James Franco’s ‘Vice’ short story: Gay sex, Cher drag and Lindsay Lohan

James Franco’s latest piece of writing for Vice magazine's fiction edition reads more like a chapter from his own life: discussing Oscar moments dressed as Cher, gay sex scenes in Gus Van Sant films and his relationship with Hollywood actresses.

Entitled Bungalow 89, the piece is a bizarre stream of consciousness-style narrative which describes Franco’s experience staying at the Chateau Marmont while his house underwent repairs.

Reading more like fact than fiction, the plot weaves between the actor’s reality and imagination all the while explaining a scenario whereby he refused to sleep with Lindsay Lohan.

Franco includes some interesting pop culture references about My Own Private Idaho and refers to a gay sex scene which was deleted from Gus Van Sant’s film Last Days, which Franco had hoped to score a part in.

Here, he expresses his disappointment at having a Cher parody cut from his 2011 Oscar’s hosting gig.

“I was so unhappy about the Oscars because they had cut my Cher sequence—I was supposed to sing the song from Burlesque, You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me, dressed as Cher."
