International Lesbian Day a Hit in New Farm
Brisbane's International Lesbian Day celebrations went off without a hitch on Sunday, with organisers more than happy with the turnout.
Held at Riverside Receptions in New Farm as a fundraiser for Lesbian Health Action Group (LHAG) the event raised roughly $7,000.
“We’ve had really good feedback, people liked the venue and they liked the mix of performances and events – just the vibe of the day,” LHAG’s Sally Morris said.
“I was stoked by the number of people who came, we’re estimating about 700 people.”
The last two years have seen the event at The Wickham Hotel, and Morris thanked The Wickham’s Ruth Gardner who organised this year’s performers, along with MC Davina Jones from 4ZZZ radio show Dykes on Mykes.
Although LHAG is yet to debrief on the day, Morris thinks next year’s event will also be at New Farm.
“A lot of people said it was good having the indoor and outdoor space, that it was a lot more conducive to having a family friendly space. And we had a lot of people turning up with children, which was fantastic.”
