Harvey Milk to feature on US postal stamp
LGBT activist, the late Harvey Milk, is set to become the first openly gay person to be featured on a US postal stamp.
The US Postal Service confirmed on Thursday (October 10) a stamp featuring Milk will be issued in 2014.
Milk’s nephew, Stuart Milk, announced the good news via the Harvey Milk Foundations’ Facebook page, pronouncing “Another first! Mydeep gratitude to everyone that supported this effort!”
In 1977 Milk was the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California.
Sadly Milk was murdered on November 27 1978 by a disgruntled city supervisor, Dan White. He had been in office for 11 months.
Milk’s story was the subject of the 2008 bio pic Milk starring Sean Penn, who won an Academy Award for his efforts.
