Germany debuts rainbow uniforms for Sochi
Is Germany making a silent protest against Russia’s anti gay laws? Many are speculating yes, after the nation debuted their rainbow-hued uniforms for the Sochi 2014 Olympics.
Germany’s uniforms, were revealed in a catwalk parade on Tuesday and they featured banded jackets in multicoloured hues.
Immediately after their showing, the Twitterverse erupted with comments describing them as “rainbow patterned” and “a clear political statement”. One Twitter user described the outfits as "hideous but a well intentioned move supporting gay rights".
The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) has denied the uniforms were a form of protest, commenting that they were finalised before Putin’s anti gay laws came into effect.
The uniform’s designer, Willy Bogner, is yet to comment.
