George Takei to be honoured for LGBTI advocacy work
Star Trek actor, LGBTI advocate and openly gay star, George Takei will be the recipient of the The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s 2013 National Leadership Award.
Takei will receive the award at the 17th Annual Miami Recognition Dinner in November which honours people for contributions made to the social, cultural, political, and humanitarian needs of the LGBT community.
Speaking of the acknowledgement Takei told AAP,
“I am deeply honoured to be recognised by this wonderful organization that has been fighting for LGBT equality for the past four decades. It is a privilege to be part of an event like the 17th Annual Miami Recognition Dinner that raises money for multiple organisations serving our community.”
Takei first came out in 2005 and has been advocating for LGBTI rights ever since.
