'Gay rights' hero Harvey Milk honoured with stamp

The U.S. Post has commemorated the first openly gay poltician to be elected in America, Harvey Milk, with a special black and white stamp available from May 22.

The reknowned gay rights campaigner won a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1978 and was assassinated that same year alongside mayor George Moscone by fellow supervisor Dan White who had resigned and wanted his job back.

The campaign to issue the stamp began in 2009
