First British same-sex marriages to take place in Sydney
The first same-sex marriage in an Australian UK consulate will take place today in Sydney.
Same-sex couples living in Australia will have the opportunity to marry in the country from today as long as one partner holds British citizenship.
Peter Fraser and Gordon Stevenson are Australians with dual citizenship who have been together for 19 years and will be the first couple to wed.
The ceremony will take place at 3pm at the Australian UK consulate in Sydney, however their marriage will not be recognised under Australian jurisdictions.
