Evan Rachel Wood opens up about the "pain, fear and confusion" of her bisexuality
Actress Evan Rachel Wood has engaged in a very candid Twitter chat, divulging details concerning her initial struggle with bisexuality.
Speaking with The Advocate's editor-in-chief Matthew Breen, the actress explained that her first attempt in coming out to her mum was a much more harrowing experience compared to her actual coming out on Twitter in 2012.
"Nothing compared to when I tried to come out to my mother when I was 12. I was so scared and cried so hard I never got the words out."
Wood also explained the social stigma she felt surrounding her sexuality, but that her experiences were no less confronting than other LGBTI people coming out.
"I have certainly felt shamed from both sides for identifying that way [bisexual]. People like things black and white. It's less scary. Grey areas make people uneasy, but the pain fear and confusion are just as real as any other sexuality and you are not alone."
Wood, who was once dated shock rocker Marliyn Manson and is now the wife of British actor Jamie Bell, has previously stated that she is still bisexual, although no longer single.
