The 86th Annual Academy Awards are currently underway hosted by crowd favourite Ellen DeGeneres, however LGBTI films nominated are scarce.

Philomena starring Best Actress Nominee Judi Dench follows a mother's search for her gay son while Dallas Buyers Club follows a homophobic AIDS sufferer played by Best Actor nominee Matthew McConaughey. The film stars Jared Leto as the transgenered Rayon. Leto has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

Foreign lesbian French film Blue is the Warmest Colour failed to earn any nominations for an Oscar although it won the Palm D'Or in Cannes in 2013.
