Pet Shop Boys turn drag queen's speech railing against homophobia into dance track

LAST UPDATED // Monday, 10 March 2014 10:26 Written by // Cec Busby

UK electro pop outfit Pet Shop Boys have sampled an impassioned speech by Irish drag queen Panti Bliss, in which Bliss rails against homophobia, and turned it into a dance track.

Bliss, also known as Rory O’Neill, is considered one of Ireland's best drag queens. She made headlines last month following an appearance on an Irish TV talk show in which she named several organisations as homophobic.  The remarks saw Bliss/O’Neill being threatened with being sued.

The feisty drag queen took to the stage at the Abbey Theatre to respond and it is this impassioned speech that the Pet Shop Boys have included in their latest dance track.

So a person does not have the right to protest being called homophobic because they are not homosexual? Good one. If I were called racist unfairly so, do I not have the right to stand up for myself because I am white? Am I not allowed to have an opinion as to what the word "racist" means and applies too?
