Joan Rivers' surprise gay wedding
Comedienne Joan Rivers is best known for her caustic wit and biting fashion commentaries, but did you know she is also an ordained minister? True… So true in fact she used her powers to deliver an impromptu wedding ceremony in New York.
Rivers was at a Barnes and Noble in NYC to sign copies of her latest book Diary of a Mad Diva when approached by a couple of fans who asked if it was true she was ordained as a minister. When Rivers responded n the affirmative, the pair, a gay couple, asked if she would marry them on the spot.
Rivers promptly brought the happy couple – Joe Aiello and Jed Ryan – up on stage and performed the ceremony in front of an appreciative crowd.
Aiello told Entertainment Tonight, “While we were waiting, she mentioned being an ordained minister, and I jokingly asked [Ryan], “Do you think it’s true? Maybe she’ll marry us.” And he goes, “Ask her.” So I did. I don’t think he really thought I would, and neither one of us thought she’d say yes!’
