Gay Survivor contestant killed in train derailment

Caleb Bankston, a former contestant on popular US reality TV show, Survivor has died after being crushed between two train carriages, in a freak train derailment.

The 26-year-old was a contestant on last year’s Survivor: Blood Vs Water alongside his partner Colton Cumbie. At the time he said he wanted to help show America what love looks like. "Because it doesn’t matter whether it is between two men, two women, or a man and woman. Love is love and I love Colton'.

Bankston was a train engineer and conductor on the Alabama Warrior Railway in Birmingham at the time of his death. Bankston was working on the train at the time it went off the tracks.

The Birmingham News reported that he was standing on the ladder of a hopper car and directing an engineer who was backing up a train when the car suddenly derailed.

Witnesses report the train’s second carriage slammed into the first one, crushing Bankston between the carriages

Bankston’s partner Cumbie is said to be devastated by his death.

Cumbie tweeted “I wish it was me’.

The couple were planning to marry later this year.
