Gay former Olympian turned sports commentator, Johnny Weir, criticised for flamboyant fashion
Gay NBC TV anchor, Don Lemon, has criticised fellow sports commentator, former Olympic champion, Johnny Weir, for his outrageous outfits, worn during broadcasts from Sochi.
Lemon reportedly said, “No one likes a gay minstrel show”.
According to reports on news.com.au, Lemon said: “And let me just say this I had this conversation with a friend about Johnny Weir and other people who have, who are out and proud.
“Someone who is flamboyant and over the top and all of those it seems those are the people who get the attention but they don’t represent all of gay America.”
Lemon later attempted to dilute his criticism of Weir – offering the following comment:
“Johnny Weir doesn’t have to represent all of gay people. Johnny Weir is fabulous. He is flamboyant. He is who he is.”
The Olympian and world championship medal winning Weir has been broadcasting daily reports from Sochi with fellow US Olympian Tara Lipinski – the pair have been filing live results from the field for NBC Sports.
