Catholics to be surveyed on same-sex marriage by Vatican
The Vatican plans to distribute a world-wide poll to its bishops to disseminate amongst their congregations to survey opinions on church teachings, such as same-sex marriage, de facto relationships and divorce.
The poll will be conducted in the lead up to a Synod announced by Pope Francis for October 2014. The survey has already been sent to all Australian bishops.
One example question asks in regards to same-sex relationships – ‘what can be done pastorally in light of transmitting the faith?’.
It is believed the Vatican will use the results of the survey to discuss whether Catholics in certain situations feel marginalised from their faith and how to bring religion back into these people's day-to-day lives.
