Cambridge Uni students stage kiss-in in solidarity of Russia's LGBTI people
Students from the UK’s Cambridge University staged a flashmob kiss-in over the weekend in solidarity of Russia’s LGBTI people.
The gay pride flashmob assembled on King’s Parade and as the town square's clock struck twelve, hundreds of loved-up couples swapped kisses and hugs in protest over Putin’s anti-gay laws.
According to Cambridge News, Elly Smith, a student at the university and the flashmob’s organiser, said: “My girlfriend and I can hold hands on the street, without fear. We feel very lucky to live in a town where people aren’t persecuted for who they love.
“Not everyone has this. Not everyone even knows it is possible. So I wanted to demonstrate what a tolerant world looks like, and send it to Russia as a message of hope.”
