Aus gender bender model to star in Sofia Coppola's Little Mermaid adaptation
Australian gender fluid model Andrej Pejic is the first star to be named in the adaptation of Sofia Coppola's live-action version of the Little Mermaid.
Pejic, who has made a name for herself modelling women's clothing, was born a male but describes herself as "living in between genders," stating a preference for female pronouns.
The 22-year old, predominantly known as a high-end fashion model, has walked the runway for Jean-Paul Gaultier, wearing both men's and women's clothes and has also modelled for Marc Jacobs.
Pejic is the first name attached to the Coppola adaptation and will take on the role as one of Ariel's sisters.
Pejic's previous acting experience includes starring alongside Tilda Swinton in David Bowie's videoclip The Stars (Are Out Tonight), the short film Reason and TV series Faith.
