Despite assurances that he would attempt to overcome internal party differences to push for a bill to legalise civil unions for same sex couples, Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk has backed down in the face of strong opposition and says it is now unlikely that Poland will legalise same sex unions in the immediate future.

“We in Australia pride ourselves on a fair go, but the current inequality in our law means that same-sex couples are forced to travel oversees in order to marry,” says South Australian Labor Parliamentarian, Hon Gerry Kandelaars MLC, who will be progressing his motion in support of marriage equality to a vote on Wednesday in the South Australian State Legislative Council.
