Sydney's pop-up Bear Bar heats up with queer US rapper Rica Shay
LA-based hip hop artist Rica Shay is set to make a surprise appearance at Sydney’s pop-up Bear Bar during Mardi Gras.
Describing himself as the “adopted queer child of Boy George and Eminem” the flamboyant performer will bring his high energy show to ‘Cubby Hole’ at Bear Bar on February 26.
Rica Shay said he was looking to visiting Australia for the first time.
“I can’t wait to freaking get there! I’ve already gone shopping twice for speedos – so I’m really excited about it.”
He said punters are in for a treat with his performance at Bear Bar.
“When I perform live I keep the energy high and the crowd dancing; so expect hard hitting beats, quick rhymes, short body shorts, ponytails and furry back up dancers.”
Cubby Hole is just one of the many events at Bear Bar, which will once again take over the top floor of the Burdekin Hotel this Mardi Gras.
Running for nine days from Friday, February 24 to Saturday, March 4, Bear Bar will feature a host pub-based events as well as walking tours and wine tasting.
Bear Bar will also be part of the Oxtravaganza charity event taking over Oxford Street on February 25 and will relocate to the ground floor of the Burdekin for the afternoon.
And SX will once again be hosting Bear Bar’s ‘Search for a Cover Cub’ competition on Thursday, March 2.
“We’re delighted to be bringing Bear Bar back,” said Jonny Bastin from Honey Productions. “We love celebrating bear culture during Mardi Gras and welcoming people to Sydney.”
