It’s a Brisbane institution, the biggest queer street party in town. Here’s what you’ll find when you head down to The Wickham Hotel on March 12 for Big Gay Day 2017.

Sharon Needles

Sharon Needles has one of the most distinctive looks in drag. The winner of the fourth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, she’s known for her transgressive aesthetic. Horror, Hollywood and street trash have informed her look, and she’s also produced some of the best music by a drag queen this side of Divine. “I am forever, baby, I am your taxidermy,” she sings on her album Taxidermy, one of the more interesting takes on the romantic ballad captured on ProTools.

Peyton

A beautiful, soulful voice with a cool personality to match, Peyton his musical start singing gospel music in a church – yes, he was the son of a preacher man. In 2003 he released his first-ever self-penned single ‘A Higher Place’ and has gone on to write and record dance anthems and club classics with many of the biggest names in the business including Frankie Knuckles, ATFC, Eric Kupper and The Freemasons.

Yolanda Be Cool

Once you’ve heard it, you just can’t get it out of your head. Yolanda Be Cool’s ‘We No Speak Americano’ sampled a 1956 Italian song and gave it a dance swing beat that’s infectious – 5 million downloaders can’t be wrong. They’ve collaborated with legendary dance chanteuse Crystal Waters and in 2015 released ‘Sugar Man’ that went platinum in Australia. Yolanda Be Cool is a line taken from Pulp Fiction’s diner hold-up scene, and these are two Aussie producers who know a cult hit when they hear it.

Sexshooters

These boys look so good, who cares what they sound like! In fact, they not only ooze sex appeal, but the Sexshooters produce the kind of tribal house that fills dance floors across the globe. Their remix of Rihanna’s ‘Work’ takes a slow motion snooze-fest of a song and gives it that irresistible head rush treatment.

Nat Conway

Rising from X Factor in 2015, her music career has gone from strength to strength. She did a cover of ‘Everybody’s Free’ which turned into her first chart topping single, she has collaborated with Sam Divine on the single ‘Confessions’ which was a worldwide club hit and she has travelled the world wowing crowds with her distinctive sultry tone.

Ellen Reed

Her large and powerful voice got her into the Season 5 Finals of The Voice and now Ellen Reed will be thrilling the crowd at Big Gay Day. Ellen’s performed with the Queensland Pops Orchestra, Oscar Theatre Company and at the Bach Festival in Oregon.

DJ Citizen Jane

She has resume that reads like a party circuit passport, which now includes Australia. In her only Brisbane appearance, she will be playing Main Stage at Big Gay Day. All the way from Miami USA, where she has been voted Favourite DJ two years in a row, DJ CJ was named Hottest DJ from Bump and Logo TV and was the only woman on the 2016 Folsom Fair billing to spin.

Sveta & Esteè Louder

Not only are they amazing in their own rights, but DJ Sveta and DJ Esteè Louder are joining forces for an exclusive festival collaboration that will hit the Main Stage during Big Gay Day 2017. Sveta is not only the music director for Alex Perry himself, she has worked alongside the likes of Kylie Minogue, Scissor Sisters, Azealia Banks and supported Peaches on tour. DJ Esteè Louder is a regular on the Melbourne and Sydney party scene and is a regular at Heaps Gay, Girlthing, Chic and Red Raw. Her music has taken her all the way to New York City, where she appeared at the best gay club, Hot Rabbit.

Jan van der Stool

‘International musical therapist’ Jan van de Stool is about to notch Special Guest Host under her belt when she hits the Main Stage at Big Gay Day. She has become ‘quite famous online’ through her YouTube Channel, and she’s bound to have tips for how to enunciate better. Jan has cult status in Sydney through her many appearances at high-profile charity events, and her highly acclaimed theatre show I Get The Music In You, an evening with Jan van de Stool was nominated for best cabaret show in the Sydney and Melbourne Theatre Awards.
