Robin Williams played gay role in unreleased film Boulevard
Robin Williams played a married man struggling to come to terms with his sexuality in one of his final films.
Boulevard premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival this year but does not yet have a release date.
In an interview with US Weekly, the late actor said Boulevard was: “a very beautiful and sad movie about this guy who falls in love with a gay prostitute, basically comes out. He’s married, and he has to come out to his wife and he’s not fulfilled on that level. It was powerful to do.”
Film critic Peter Debruge reviewed the film for Variety Magazine saying:
"This is one of the kindest characters Williams has ever played, which makes his self-imposed turmoil — the consequence of not wanting to hurt anyone, least of all his wife — all the more tragic,”
The film's producers Monica Aguirre Diez Barroso and Mia Chang remembered the actor in a recent statement:
“Like so many around the world who have been saddened by the news of Robin Williams’ passing—we are devastated to have lost such a brilliant entertainer and an even kinder human being. We are honored to be among those privileged to have worked with him. We’re so very proud of his performance in Boulevard, and will remember him for his amazing talent and beautiful heart.”
