Peter Black, 2014 Brisbane Pride Festival president, tells QP’s Alistair Sutton about this year’s Opening Gala at Cloudland.

This year’s Pride Festival Gala night will be held in the Alice Room at Cloudland on August 29, marking the opening of the Brisbane Pride Festival. Pride president Peter Black has high hopes for the party.

“The Opening Gala will be a glamorous start to the Brisbane Pride Festival,” Black says.

“We hope everyone will dress up and come out and celebrate their community's achievements. We will unveil the full 'Define Me? More Than a Label' themed campaign, where 20 members of the community were selected and tasked with finding one word to define themselves. The result is a montage of empowerment, of strong, independent members of our community, each with their own unique story to tell.”

The Opening Gala kicks off at 7pm and includes a three-hour beverage package, hot and cold canapés as well as live entertainment. There will be a lucky door prize and more surprises throughout the night.

“We would like everyone from our wonderful LGBTIQ Community to come along and celebrate the opening of your festival and enjoy themselves,” says Black. “It is also a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our community through this past year.”
