Rosie O’Donnell to return to The View

After a less than amicable split from the The View in 2007, out lesbian Rosie O’Donnell will be returning to the show to co chair the talk show panel with Whoopi Goldberg.

Already sparks have begun to fly, with former The View panellist Elisabeth Hasselbeck blasting O’Donnell on air on her new show Fox and Friends, this week.

Hasselbeck called in from her vacation to voice her opinion on O Donnell’s return saying: “Here in comes to The View the very woman who spit in the face of our military, spit in the face of her own network, and, really, in the face of a person who stood by her and had civilized debates for the time that she was there — coming back with a bunch of control, ready to regain a seat at The View table. Not surprising, I think that it's been in the works for a long time.”

Former The View panellist Joy Behar was not impressed with Hasselbeck’s comments calling her remarks  “hate-filled”.

Behar worked with Hasselbeck and O’Donenll and was present on the day the pair had their infamous on air argument that culminated with O’Donnell never returning to the show.

Behar spoke to CNN’s Don Lemon regarding Hasselbeck’s comments and described them as below the belt.

”To say that she spits in the face of the military... I'd like Elisabeth to explain herself, really. What does she mean by that? To say that she spits in the face of the military, that's a dangerous thing to say about somebody. First of all, it's not true. I would like her to prove it. Everything is fiction on Fox anyway, what am I talking about?"

Behar described O’Donnell as a good person and suggested Hasselbeck’s actions were nasty.

“Isn't it kind of a nasty thing to say about somebody who basically is a good person? I mean, say what you want about Rosie O'Donnell, she's a very generous person, she has a million kids, she's always rescuing children - I mean, she has more kids than Mrs. Duggar at this point on her roster. Her son is at The Citadel—what more does Elisabeth want?'

O’Donnell will be joining Whoopi Goldberg as co host of the five member panel – the remaining cast have yet to be announced. Behar left the show in 2013 to pursue other TV ventures.
