Melbourne has a new private dick: Meet the Hon Miss Phryne Fisher, the latest thing on the small screen adapted from the Phryne Fisher Mystery series of novels by Kerry Greenwood.

Thirteen one-hour episodes follow lady sleuth Miss Fisher “sashaying through the back lanes and jazz clubs of late 1920s Melbourne, fighting injustice with her pearl handled pistol and her dagger sharp wit.”

Well, with a description like that, how can you at least not take a look? Miss Fisher used to be from the wrong side of the tracks (Collingwood) but her family’s fortune changed in an instant and suddenly she’s got loads of dosh and a posh boarding school education in Old Blighty.

The thing is, she never forgets her background and the social injustice she witnessed. Then there’s her sister, who has mysteriously disappeared without a trace...

See if you can spot all the modern locations used in this period piece starring Essie Davis as Fisher and Miriam Margoyles as Aunt Prudence.

Premieres February 24 on ABC1 and if the costumes are any indication of the quality of the drama, it’s going to be perfect scrumptious, darling!
