Kick off your Mardi Gras weekend in style at Café del Mar
Fresh from a sell-out gay dance party on New Year’s Day, Darling Harbour hotspot Café del Mar is once again rolling out the rainbow carpet in celebration of Mardi Gras.
Produced by party expert Renee Schembri, this queer get-together – aptly titled ‘Café del Mar-di Gras’ – on Friday, March 3, is the perfect way to kick off your Mardi Gras weekend.
“This Mardi Gras event is about bringing a great mix of people together – boys, girls and friends of the community,” Schembri says. “It’s all about bringing everyone together.”
Schembri is the driving force behind party collective Bitch, which recently co-hosted the New Year’s Day event at Café del Mar. She says the venue, situated on the rooftop at Cockle Bay Wharf, is the perfect place to ring in the Mardi Gras festivities.
“There’s something special about it,” Schembri says. “It has an Ibiza-influenced edge that just shines through.
“Café del Mar oozes quality, an outdoor space overlooking the harbour, and the perfect setting for sunset cocktails and hands in the air. It’s perched up above the masses – our new favourite and exclusive getaway. With the option of bottle service, reserved booths, VIP packages with canapés and cocktails, it just delivers on every level.”
Schembri has assembled a stellar line-up of Sydney’s finest DJs to get everyone in the party mood, including Kate Monroe, Mike Kelly, Sista P, Dirty Nelly and GI Jode.
“It’s all about the music,” she adds. “Taking it back to the best of Mardi Gras over the last 10 years is the theme. You will hear classics from back then to the best of now. Dust off the dancing shoes.
“It’s our biggest weekend of the year and the party starts right here! Kick off in style at Café del Mar-di Gras.”
Café del Mar-di Gras is on Friday, March 3, 6pm, at Café del Mar, Cockle Bay Wharf, Darling Harbour. GA $25/VIP $80 (incl. 2 hour drinks and canape package) from moshtix.com.au
