SYDNEY: Italian DJ Danny Verde headlines the sky-high dance party at Sydney Tower, writes Daniel Chamberlain.
Held in Sydney Tower, TOP is a not-to-be-missed mile-high occasion. Featuring performances from local and international DJs as well as a world famous surprise guest, the evening is the perfect way to enjoy the sunset over the city with a few cocktails before dancing the night away.
Making his first trip to Australia, Italian-born Danny Verde will kick off his Mardi Gras weekend by performing as the headline DJ act at the annual tower spectacular. From rock and roll to tribal beats, Verde promises crowds will be in for a unique set, as informed by his diverse musical influences.
When asked to describe his sound, Verdi replies: “It's not American, that's for sure”.
“I’ve always been into making my own remixes and mash-ups of what is currently popular,” he adds. “So while the dancer might hear a familiar track, it will definitely have the Danny Verde twist on it.
“I love playing mash-ups of tracks that you wouldn’t expect to hear next to each other.”
Danny says his sound also has a big Iberican influence with its “Spanish rhythms, beats, drums and guitars”, as well as Brazilian music and rock and roll.
“I always say that my sound is ‘music for bodes and soul,” he says.
No stranger to the world of dance and clubs, Verde recent remix of Lady Gaga’s ‘You & I’ reached numbers one on the US Billboard charts, adding another accolade to the long list of pop artists he has worked with including Cher and Madonna.
At TOP, Verde will be joined local DJs Kitty Glitter, Alex Taylor and Stephen Craddock. And there’ll be a special performance by Willam of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Verde says he is looking forward to rocking Sydney revelers at the event.
“I like a crowd that is alive with emotion, who is there for something special. I know they came to have a good time, so I hope to give them a good time.
“There is nothing like the feeling of hearing a crowd roar with pleasure and excitement, when that relationship between the DJ and crowd is a perfect circle of emotion, feeding one from the other.”
