All-male UK dance spectacular BalletBoyz is returning to Sydney with a dynamic exhibition of talent and sensuality, writes Garrett Bithell.

One of the most cheekily original and innovative forces in modern dance, BalletBoyz has thrilled audiences all around the world with its distinctive style, fusing spectacular dance from an all-male ensemble with compelling music and film. Helmed by former Royal Ballet lead dancers Michael Nunn and William Trevitt, the company is also renowned for presenting dance on television, and have created several works and documentaries for Channel 4 and BBC.

Following a sold out international tour and a season at Sadler’s Wells London, BalletBoyz is coming to the Opera House with The Talent, exclusive to Sydney.

The Talent features ten emerging young dancers, handpicked through open auditions across the UK who come from different dance backgrounds and training. All demonstrate a passion for dance and natural, unharnessed talent. Presented in two parts, The Talent features new works Serpent by Liam Scarlett and Fallen by Russel Maliphant.

World-renowned choreographer Scarlett is a resident artist with the Royal Ballet and has created works for New York City Ballet and Miami City Ballet. Serpent is a beautiful study of union and virtuosity, featuring a haunting score by acclaimed UK composer Max Richter.

Acclaimed British dancer-choreographer Maliphant is an Associate Artist at Sadler’s Wells and long-time collaborator with Sylvie Guillem. Their work PUSH was presented at Sydney Opera House in 2009. His new work Fallen is a darkly thrilling display of grace and power, featuring an especially composed score by award-winning French cinema composer Armand Amar.

Fallen was awarded Best Modern Choreography at the 2013 Critics' Circle National Dance Awards alongside the award for Best Independent Company to BalletBoyz.

BalletBoyz Artistic Directors Michael Nunn and William Trevitt are thrilled to be returning to our shores. “We are excited the Company will be performing again at the iconic Sydney Opera House and look forward to introducing our ten young dancers to Sydney audiences.”
