The Men Who Have Sex With Men Global Forum (MSMGF) will welcome U.S. Global AIDS ambassador Deborah Birx as a guest speaker when the event, themed Setting the Pace, kicks off this weekend.

Held before every International AIDS Conference, the MSMGF Pre-Conference brings together advocates, researchers, policy makers, service providers, multilateral organisations, and global donors to discuss and develop shared strategies to address the most pressing issues of the day.

The theme of this year's event is Setting the Pace, in recognition of the central role that gay men, other men who have sex with men (MSM), and transgender people have played in responding to HIV since the first days of the epidemic.

Speakers include Dr. Deborah Birx, U.S. Global AIDS Ambassador, and Congresswoman Barbara Lee alongside Global Fund Executive Director Mark Dybul, Nigerian activist Michael Ighodaro, and UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé.

Topics to be addressed will include implications of the Global Fund's New Funding Model, persistent challenges in accessing quality HIV services, training needs of healthcare providers, task shifting demands on community-based organisations led by MSM and transgender people, and the relationships between community systems and health systems in meeting the needs of our communities.
